Crochet angel free pattern

If you remember I had posted a link to the free crochet pattern for angel ornament in one of my earlier posts. They were about 4" high. The head does take a while to make as it is full of tiny scs but once that is done it isn't all that bad. Next comes the starching. I will be writing a post on how to starch them sometime in the future. It took some trail and error before I came up with the right proportion and kind of starch I used before I got them right the first time. Will be sharing it with you in a later post.

A friend wanted bigger angel ornaments for her son's wedding so she could use them to decorate the pews so here is one of them I made using acrylic yarn in off-white. They stood at 9" tall and required no starching at all as the yarn was pretty thick. Yippee!!

Ice Skates Christmas Ornaments

When I saw the ice skates Christmas tree ornaments on the Net I simply loved them. And so I was hunting for the white paper clips or you might choose to use the plain steel ones. There was a shortage of white in my box and I ended up using ones that matched with the colour of my ice skates. My eldest sister too made a few and everyone really liked them. Hope you like them too. Christmas Tree Decor

We always try to put up our Christmas tree on the 1st of December but it doesn't always happen. After all the trouble one has to take to put it up, display the Christmas decor and hang the Christmas tree ornaments, you might as well have it up for longer so that you can sit back and admire it all. Most of our Christmas tree ornaments have been made over the years and so our collection has built up. Our Christmas tree ornaments are handmade but you will see a few ready-made ones that friends have given as gifts some of them from Portugal or the UK. I have made the crochet snowflakes and stars, stockings, ice skates, Santa Claus and the tiny snowmen. My sister has made the eggheads. She is really good at them and takes great pride in executing her wealth out of waste project. Some of the eggheads even sport some of her hair ;)

 Christmas is fast approaching and I am busy with so many orders that sometimes I wonder whether I will have enough time to make things for myself! :( So I have decided not to take orders in December henceforth; it simply puts too much pressure on me as I have a full-time job and can do this only at nights and weekends when I have time to spare. Last year I had made the sitting snowman and also the teeny snowmen in rainbow colours but most of them got given away and the ones we have left are red, green blue and yellow which we had put up on our Christmas tree. I had put a picture of our Christmas tree 2013 with all the crochet Christmas ornaments on our Facebook page and so the orders started pouring in for Christmas 2014. I started working on them only in October over weekends and here are some of the snowmen that I made. It takes me a half hour just to make all the crochet parts and then another half hour to assemble them and sew on the beads for eyes and buttons. They make wonderful Christmas decor in crochet and you can hang them on your Christmas tree, pin them on to your curtains or leave them here and there in your homes. You can be sure they will be much appreciated. some of these are going as gifts, one set of snowmen will go to my dear godmother and the other I have already given to my mother's doctor; she really takes good care of her health and I am so very grateful to her. Crochet cherries applique

Crochet cherries applique instructions

I used knitting cotton for these cherries applique and I used them on the Christmas crochet paper serviette holder.

 

Cherries :

Using red thread, make a magic ring, 3 ch (counts as first tr), 17 tr into ring. Sl st into top of three ch. Pull the magic ring tight.

Repeat to make a second cherry.

Stem and leaves :

Using green thread, ch 17, htr into 2nd ch from hook, htr in next ch, tr into each of next 2 ch, dbl tr in next ch, tr into each of next 2 ch, htr into next ch, sl st into next ch, htr in next ch, tr into each of next 2 ch, tr in next ch, tr  into each of next 2 ch, htr into last ch, ch 2 and turn work so as to start work on the other side of the chain.

Htr  in next ch, tr into each of next 2 ch, dbl tr in next ch, tr into each of next 2 ch, htr into next ch, sl st into next ch, htr in next ch, tr into each of next 2 ch, dbl  tr in next ch, tr into each of next 2 ch, htr into last ch, ch 1, sl st into 1^st ch. Fasten off leaving about 8” of thread. Use this to stitch a center vein through the chains in the middle of the leaves.

Join thread to cherry with a dc, ch 7, join to center of the leaves with a sl st, ch 6, join to other cherry with a dc and fasten off.

You may sew on these cherries to a child's frock or to the Christmas paper serviette holder I have provided instructions for in my earlier post.

Paper Serviette Holder with Cherries for Christmas
 I saw a picture of this crochet paper napkin holder on some Spanish site and made it just by looking at it. It looked very pretty and thought it would make a nice gift at Christmas time too with the cherries and a green border in Christmas colours. They were quite a hit and I bet you can make these crochet paper serviette holders to give away to your friends and family as well. I have written out my own instructions and am sharing them with you. They are basically granny squares so if you are adept at crochet you wont even need them but its always easier when you get the crochet pattern all ready for you.

Material : Knitting Cotton - White, green and red.

Gauge: after Row 1, measures 1 inch across or down.

Dimensions : 8.75”  x  8.75” square

Using white start with 6 ch and join with a sl st to form a ring.

Row 1: 3 ch (counts as first tr), 2 tr in ring, 2 ch, (3 tr in ring, 2 ch) 3 times, ending with sl st in top of 3 ch.

Row 2: sl st into each of next 2 tr and into 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 2 tr, 2 ch, 3 tr in same 2 ch sp to form a corner. (2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch, 3 tr in next 2 ch sp) 3 times to make 3 more corners ending with ch 2, sl st in top of 3 ch.

Row 3: sl st into each of next 2 tr and into 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 2 tr, 2 ch, 3 tr in same 2 ch sp to form a corner. ( 2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch in next 2 ch sp. 3tr, 2ch, 3tr in next 2 ch space to form the next corner) 3 times ending with 2 ch, sl st into top of 3 ch.

After Row 3, please note that instead of 2 ch at the corners, you have to make 3 ch.

Row 4: sl st into each of next 2 tr and into 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr in same 2 ch sp to form a corner. ( (2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch in next 2 ch sp.) 2 times,  3tr, 3ch, 3tr in next 2 ch space to form the next corner) 3 times ending with 2 ch, sl st into top of 3 ch.

Row 5: sl st into each of next 2 tr and into 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr in same 2 ch sp to form a corner. ( (2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch in next 2 ch sp.) 3 times,  3tr, 3ch, 3tr in next 2 ch space to form the next corner) 3 times ending with 2 ch, sl st into top of 3 ch.

Row 6: sl st into each of next 2 tr and into 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr in same 2 ch sp to form a corner. ( (2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch in next 2 ch sp.) 4 times,  3tr, 3ch, 3tr in next 2 ch space to form the next corner) 3 times ending with 2 ch, sl st into top of 3 ch.

Row 7: sl st into each of next 2 tr and into 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr in same 2 ch sp to form a corner. ( (2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch in next 2 ch sp.) 5 times,  3tr, 3ch, 3tr in next 2 ch space to form the next corner) 3 times ending with 2 ch, sl st into top of 3 ch.

Row 8: sl st into each of next 2 tr and into 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr in same 2 ch sp to form a corner. ( (2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch in next 2 ch sp.) 6 times,  3tr, 3ch, 3tr in next 2 ch space to form the next corner) 3 times ending with 2 ch, sl st into top of 3 ch.

Row 9: sl st into each of next 2 tr and into 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr in same 2 ch sp to form a corner. ( (2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch in next 2 ch sp.) 7 times,  3tr, 3ch, 3tr in next 2 ch space to form the next corner) 3 times ending with 2 ch, sl st into top of 3 ch.

Row 10: sl st into each of next 2 tr and into 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr in same 2 ch sp to form a corner. ( (2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch in next 2 ch sp.) 8 times,  3tr, 3ch, 3tr in next 2 ch space to form the next corner) 3 times ending with 2 ch, sl st into top of 3 ch. Fasten off.

Repeat the above procedure to make the other side of the paper serviette holder.

Place the two complete pieces one on top of the other with wrong sides facing each other as shown in the picture below.

Turn a corner of the top motif towards the center.

Starting at the bottom right corner, join green thread with a sl st into 4^th 2 ch sp.

(4 ch (counts as 1^st dbl tr), 3 dbl tr into same 2ch space, dc in next 2ch sp.) 13 times. This completes the border for the triangular overturned flap.

Steps to make crochet paper serviette holder

Dc into the lower motif as shown in the picture below.

(4 ch (counts as 1^st dbl tr), 3 dbl tr into same 2ch space, dc in next 2ch sp.) 13 times making sure the last dc catches the top motif as well. This completes the border for the triangular flap equivalent of the lower motif.

Now making sure that the top and bottom motifs match all round stitch for stitch, work (4 ch (counts as 1^st dbl tr), 3 dbl tr into same 2ch space, dc in next 2ch sp.) 27 times making sure the two motifs get sewn together. Fasten off. Weave in threads.

Sew on cherries to the serviette holder as shown in picture making sure you sew down the flap as well so that it doesn’t fall back.
