Free crochet pattern for coaster cover |
Recently a friend provided me with a coaster and asked if I could make one like it. Her hubby's aunt who passed away last year had made them for a cousin who wanted them in black colour now. So she asked me to do make 30 of them. I looked at the crochet coaster cover and as I made a new one, I wrote out the pattern for you. After a certain stage it calls for working the rounds in a spiral without beginning or end so as to maintain continuity but I am afraid I did not do it in the first one that I made. Will post a new picture sometime soon.

Here are the instructions:
Begin with 9 ch. Join with sl st to form a ring.
Row 1: 4 ch, (1 tr in ring, 1 ch) 17 times ending with sl st in third of 4 ch. (18 tr)
Row 2: sl st into next 1 ch sp, 3 ch, keeping last loop of each tr on hook work 3 tr into same 1 ch sp, draw thread through all four loops, 3ch. * Keeping last loop of each tr on hook, work 4 tr in next 1 ch sp, draw thread through all five loops (cluster made), 3ch. repeat from * all around ending with sl st into top of first cluster.(18 clusters)
Row 3: 3 ch, 3 tr in next 3 ch loop, * 1 tr in top of next cluster, 3 tr in next 3 ch loop, repeat from * all around ending with a sl st in top of 3 ch. (72 tr)
Note : Work in front loops from now on and without joining the rows but working in a spiral like you would for amigurumi so that there is continuity in the pattern. You my use a bit of yarn to mark the beginning of your row or you can also note the beginning of your earlier rows where a 3 ch replaces a tr.
Row 4: 1 dc into each tr all round. (72 dc)
Row 5: 1 dc into each dc all round. (72 dc)
Row 6: 1 dc into each dc all round. (72 dc)
Row 7: 1 dc into each dc all round. (72 dc)
Row 8: 1 dc into each dc all round. (72 dc)
Row 9: Work 1 dc in every two dcs all round. This is a decrease which reduces 72 dcs into 36.
